Visualizing Wind Electricity Production in South America (2000-2022)

The latest visualization from New Energy IQ explores wind electricity production in the 12 countries of the South American continent (with the exception of French Guiana; while technically located in South America it is an overseas department of France rather than an independent country).

Utilizing energy data from Our World in Data, which explores energy consumption (primary energy, per capita, and growth rates), energy mix, electricity mix and other relevant metrics, the visualization reveals several highlights, namely that Argentina and Brazil have rapidly accelerated production of wind energy in the past decade, while those with lower GDP (Uraguay) or which tend to be more reliant on fossil fuels (Venezuela) have seen consistently low and declining wind electricity production.
